Product Name:           VSAM/VSE         Product Release# (or state “current”): Current

Vendor Name:           IBM

Title: (Paraphrase problem in a single statement)IDCAMS modifies user supplied parameters without notification

Detailed Problem Description: (Description of what you want changed - 400 character entry limit)

It has occurred that an IDCAMS DEFINE CLUSTER user supplied parameter has been overridden which has resulted in the SPACE allocation being changed from CYL to TRK and a control area to be less than a full cylinder.  IDCAMS will still issue a return code of zero and no messages saying the parameter has been overridden.

Priority: (Select one: Urgent - High - Medium - Low) Medium

Requested Completion Date: (When? Examples: 3 months, 1 year, Next Release) 1 year

Requirement Type: (Select one: Acceptability - Compatibility/Migration - Ease of Use - Feature/Function - Performance - Reliability/Availability/Serviceability - Packaging - Interoperability)

Reliability

Business Justification: (Why? Non-technical business case description. Do not reword Detailed Problem Description from above. What are the benefits to be gained by your company, and the vendor and others?  Quantify: run time, dollars, manpower, etc.   Why should the vendor do this for the customer?)

It would save time investigating why a LISTCAT of a CLUSTER does not match the supplied definition and to prevent a possible performance problem being promoted into production.

Solution: (Optional)(Desired/undesired elements Note: Making a suggestion may limit a vendors ability to deliver a solution)

Have IDCAMS print a message when a user supplied parameter is overridden and why. Also, set a RC other than 0 (maybe 1).

Impact: (Optional) (How will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered?)
