In VSE, the limitation of
ESDS 4 Gig file structuring exist because of RBA addressing. The problem lies
when we do a conversion, that need a temporary ESDS working files for a large
files. Those files cannot be defined as extralarge datasets since the program
will not allow us to write records which is not in squential order in KSDS.
Z/OS do have this capability, why not VSE?

Conversion runtime will improved significantly
because we can remove all the splitting and merging of the temporary working
files. End of day processing also will improve since writing to ESDS file is
faster than writing to Extralarge KSDS file.

Every conversion or branch rationalisation
exercise will be a downtime to online because of the amount of time taken to
split, convert and merge the files.
