Provide Vendor Exits for
VTAPE processing, specifically, pre-Open and post-Close exits. This would allow Tape Management Systems,
such as Dynam/T from CA or EPIC (CSI/BIM or CA) to fully manage VTAPE files, as
they do other files that reside on physical cartridges.

Right now, Tape Management Systems can not
manage VTAPE files. It is up to the
(System) Programmer(s) to 'Manage' VTAPE files. They must place the VTAPE START and STOP statements in their JCL,
track which Job is using which VTAPE Drive or File at which time, etc. VTAPE would be much easier to use if the TMS
could provide all the 'management'.
