Title: (Paraphrase problem in a
single statement)IDCAMS RESTORE use MODEL
information
Detailed
Problem Description: (Description of what you want changed - 400 character entry limit)
Currently RESTORE can only
restore to the same catalog/volumes that it was backed up in unless VOLUME (or
DATAVOLUME or INDEXVOLUME) statements are specified. If RESTORE would utilize the MODEL statements in a catalog, it
would be easier to RESTORE clusters into a different catalog/volumes w/o adding
VOLUME statements. The only required
change would be that of the destination catalog.

Justification: (Why? Non-technical
business case description. Do not reword Detailed Problem
Description from above. What are the benefits to be gained by your
company, and the vendor and others? Quantify:
run time, dollars, manpower, etc. Why
should the vendor do this for the customer?)
Increased productivity. There are many potential problems in the
current method, where VOLUME (or DATAVOLUME or INDEXVOLUME) has to be specified
when RESTORE is performed on a different catalog than the one it was backed up
to. This change would only require
changing the destination catalog (and all of the other information would be
pulled from the respective model, including VOLUME information)
Solution: (Optional)(Desired/undesired elements Note: Making a suggestion may limit a
vendors ability to deliver a solution)
Impact: (Optional) (How
will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered?)
