Title: (Paraphrase problem in a
single statement)Allow Stand-Alone Dump
program to be IPLd from DASD but dump to TAPE
Detailed
Problem Description: (Description of what you want changed - 400 character entry limit)
Having been caught in need
of an IPLable Stand-Alond Dump tape and not having one because 'I thought those
were scratches' or some other similar excuse, I think it would be nice if the
Stand-Alone Dump program, when IPLd from DASD, could have the smarts to ask the
operator if s/he wants to dump to tape, and then request a tape unit cuu if the
response is 'yes' and then go ahead and dump to tape.

Justification: (Why? Non-technical
business case description. Do not reword Detailed Problem
Description from above. What are the benefits to be gained by your
company, and the vendor and others?
Quantify: run time, dollars, manpower, etc. Why should the vendor do this for the customer?)
Allows for insurance that a current and IPLable
SA Dump program will always be available when needed (as a DASD bootstrap)
while allowing the flexibility of dumping to tape. As with backups, you "never need 'em as much as you do when
you don’t have 'em" - the option is a hard wait that IBM does not have the
opportunity to investigate because a dump could not be taken.
Solution: (Optional)(Desired/undesired elements Note: Making a suggestion may limit a
vendors ability to deliver a solution)
Modify SA Dump program as requested above &
give the option during install or FSU to specify a third DASD cuu on which to
write the SA Dump bootstrap, that way it is always current. Might as well also ask OPR if s/he wants to
dump to DASD if booted IPLd from tape, just to cover all the bases at once.
Impact: (Optional) (How
will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered?)
