Title: (Paraphrase problem in a
single statement)Provide alternate logging
mechanism
Detailed
Problem Description: (Description of what you want changed - 400 character entry limit)
Introduce an alternate
logging facility. When one database log
fills up, a log switch would take place.
The alternate log would then receive the log data, while the primary log
file is being archived. When the
alternate log fills up, the primary log takes over while the alternate is being
archived.

Justification: (Why? Non-technical
business case description. Do not reword Detailed Problem
Description from above. What are the benefits to be gained by your
company, and the vendor and others?
Quantify: run time, dollars, manpower, etc. Why should the vendor do this for the customer?)
Alternate logging would prevent the stoppage of
logical units of work while waiting for a tape to be mounted to handle the log
archive request. In this age of
ultimate availability, it is important that there be no hold ups in the
database for the simple task of taking a backup of a log file or disk.
Solution: (Optional)(Desired/undesired elements Note: Making a suggestion may limit a
vendors ability to deliver a solution)
Add alternate logging capability to the already
existing dual logging function.
Impact: (Optional) (How
will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered?)
When logical units of work are not started due
to a pending log archive, the business is affected due to database transactions
that can not be completed in a timely manner.
