DB2/VSE is one of the few VSE products left that does not support the extended format of the AR MSG command, i.e. MSG pid|jobname,DATA=command.

Functionality

Business Justification: (Why? Non-technical business case description. Do not reword Detailed Problem Description from above. What are the benefits to be gained by your company, and the vendor and others?  Quantify: run time, dollars, manpower, etc.   Why should the vendor do this for the customer?)

It would make life easier when communicating with DB2/VSE from the console. Currently, when automation of tasks is required, special REXX procs have to be employed to communicate with DB2. It would also bring DB2/VSE up to the level of other IBM products.

Solution: (Optional)(Desired/undesired elements Note: Making a suggestion may limit a vendors ability to deliver a solution)

Add the ability to use the extended format of the AR MSG command, i.e. MSG pid|jobname,DATA=command.

Impact: (Optional) (How will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered?)

It will make life easier for the Systems Programmer by being able to enter one command instead of having to message DB2, wait for a prompt and then enter the actual DB2 command. This scenario is no longer necessary for any other IBM product.
