WAVV Requirement Form

Date: 2/5/02                                                Requirement #:  WAVV200222

Product Name:           DB2/VSE    Product Release#: 7.1

Vendor Name:           IBM

Title: (Paraphrase problem in a single statement)Add better printer support to DBS utility

Detailed Problem Description: (Description of what you want changed - 400 character entry limit)

Output from the DBS batch utility is sent by default to SYSLST. For DB2/VSE the width of output reports may be a maximum of 121 (120+cc). In DB2/VM this can be overridden to a max of 256. This VSE limitation is very problematic for queries that can return many columns of varying width because the output wraps. The output should be as "wide" as necessary, up to the current Power limitation of 512.

Feature/Function

Business Justification: (Why? Non-technical business case description. Do not reword Detailed Problem Description from above. What are the benefits to be gained by your company, and the vendor and others?  Quantify: run time, dollars, manpower, etc.   Why should the vendor do this for the customer?)

Because of this limitation, DBS is pretty useless to produce readable batch queries of any content. We've had to find other solutions or circumventions, none of which are good. DB2/VSE should have the same, if not better, functionality as that of DB2/VM.

Solution: (Optional)(Desired/undesired elements Note: Making a suggestion may limit a vendors ability to deliver a solution)

Allow assignment to any logical printer and increase the SET LINEWIDTH parameter to the maximum supported by POWER.

Impact: (Optional) (How will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered?)

Will have to continue to find other ways to produce batch queries that are readable.
