During the archive process, DB2 currently asks for the

operator to mount a tape and to indicate on which drive the tape is mounted. Since tape managers automatically provide for this function, customer

sites that use tape management software have to endure extra operator

intervention at the start of an archive, which in all cases is

undesirable.

A DB2/VSE startup option that indicates that the customer uses a tape

manager and bypasses the previous messages and simply opens the tape

file.  The tape manager will intercept the open and process the tape

normally.
