Title : Restore Limited CPU Timer
Support
(Short description of what you want the
product changed to - include keywords like function, short product name)
Statement of
the Problem : (What? Detailed description of what you want
changed, 400 char.limit)
Restore support in the STXIT
macro for the cpu timer. Restrict timer
support to the BG partition. This
support was formerly available, but was removed due to a
conflict if the timer was allocated to a CICS
partition (if I recall correctly).
Benefit : (Why? Non-technical business
case description, i.e a business case. Do not reword problem statement
above. How do you to justify the needed
change? Wwill itrequest
benefit the submitter’s your company, and the vendor
and others? Business case
and benefits to users and vendor which can to
justify the needed change?. Quantify: run time, dollars, manpower, etc. Also, wWhy
should is it important
for vendor to want to do this for their
customer?s)
The cpu timer
is the most reliable way to time processor performance benchmarks.
Use of other
approaches (such as using the low resolution interval timer) produces
inaccurate
results. Use of benchmarking programs
allows us to measure the
performance
improvement offered by new processor models relative to our company's job mix
and also permits us to verify the efficiency of inhouse code.
Date : (When? ASAP, 6 months, one year from now, etc)
next release
Impact : (How? How will your company’s business be
affected if a solution is not
delivered.)
Estimating
processor performance under changing workloads
- in advance - will
continue to be
more a matter of educated guesses rather than actual measurement.
Solution : (optional desired / undesired elements Note: suggest can limit vendor ability to deliver a solution)
Do not change JCL - limit cpu timer support to
the Background partition only.
Classification : (Suggestion=Nice Idea, Long
Range=Future, Tactical=ASAP, or Acceptability=I won’t buy the product
or will drop the product if solution not provided)
