The new and existing eBusiness Connectors (CICS Transaction Gateway/Universal Client, DB/2 Connectors and new VSE eBusiness Connectors) do not provide direct access to CICS owned (VSAM) files.

Most VSE/ESA environments house a great deal of their business critical data within VSAM files which are controlled by CICS.  By providing access to the data files within CICS, the three-tier web serving model would be greatly enhanced.  Web server based applications (running on the middle tier) would have direct access to this CICS data, without the need to develop addition host applications.

Date :       (When?  ASAP, 6 months, one year from now, etc)

ASAP

Impact :    (How?   How will your company’s business be affected if a solution is not delivered.)

Because the current eBusiness connector model available on VSE/ESA does not provide this feature, development of new web based solutions can be both time consuming and costly.

Solution :  (optional desired / undesired elements Note: suggest can limit vendor ability to deliver a solution)

Update either the CICS Transaction Gateway/Universal Client or the new eBusiness VSAM connector to provide access to CICS controlled VSAM files.

Classification :  (Suggestion=Nice Idea, Long Range=Future, Tactical=ASAP, or Acceptability=I won’t buy the product or will drop the product if solution not provided)
